New Beginnings: A Day in the Life of a First Grade Teacher

Hello Bloggers! I am new to this blogging thing. So, bare with me.

My name is Mrs. Stephens. I am a wife, a daughter, a great friend, and first grade teacher! A few things about me: I come from a big family! I have four siblings and one of them is my twin! Three years ago, I married my best friend!!! Best thing I ever did! Together, we have a wonderful black lab, Harlee! He is the best puppy! Full of personality and spunk!
My wonderful husband and I on our wedding day! This is Harlee, our amazing puppy!

My main intention for this blog is to share my experiences as I learn the ropes of being a teacher. I am going into my third year of teaching, second year as a first grade teacher. My first two years taught me a lot about what kind of teacher I wanted to be. My first year was a very challenging year. I wanted to give up, but I knew I was made to be a teacher and needed to stick it out. I made it through with all my limbs and sanity (well, sort of) intact. I also decided that I was not cut out to work with 4th and 5th graders.

That summer, I did a lot of soul searching. I accepted a position in a great district teaching first grade. I always told myself I would never teach lower than 3rd grade. But, God had a different plan for me and set me on this path. I went down this path with a lot of hesitation. There are very high expectations for first grade teachers. Teaching kids how to read is a very daunting and challenging task, yet the most rewarding task I have ever encountered. I fell in love with everything first grade.

First graders have this light about them. They love school! They love learning!! They love their friends and their families! They are bright, they are funny, they are emotional, they are awesome!

Here are a few things I want to get out of this blog:

1. Share my experiences with others.
2. Get feedback and advice.
3. Inspire new and experienced teachers.

I hope you enjoy my blog, as I enjoy reading others out there! Please, share your thoughts and ideas with me! I am happy to help!
